AOL Safety and Security broken, Firewall Plugin Visual C++ Runtime Error with SSCRun.exe. Cannot uninstall app

Boot up computer using Windows XP. Master XP account. Runtime error with installing firewall provided by AOL Safety and Security. aolsofware.exe process takes up 50% of CPU processing (seen via Task Manager). Have tried to uninstall, but AOL uninstaller hangs. I've seen similar questions on Internet, but no solutions. Contacted AOL and got the standard "Delete you saved IE pages and cookies." Trying to re-install firewall does not work either.

This problem does not occur on my other XP accounts, which do not have System Administrator priveledges. This problem has also caused impacts to my ability to run System Administer on main XP account. I'd rather not reinstall Windows XP.

!.) You can always go back to the last known good system configuration.

2.) You can always shutdown a process and/ot throw it out of autostart. Technically You do not need to deinstall a program that does not start anymore ;-) So You could theoretically use other defense software without deinstalling when it does not start anymore.

One frequent problem with this specific type of software is that

the firewall must run all the time to be effective. That generates a problem with deinstall-reinstall, repair operations. So we try to fix it when it is shut down.

Go Sysinternals 1.), Process Utilities, get "Autoruns": unzip and run. Go section "logon". Chuck out firewall components and check for other programs that are not by Microsoft. Programs in "logon" must be from Microsoft, Your hardware supplier or Your firewall and virus program ( chuck out others they steel PC performance - You can also use this program, mechanism and location to check on malware! ). Next restart Windows.

Now try to deinstall or reinstall normally - if it hangs again

chuck it out off autostart again - this time for good. And get

other software to do the job. Incompatible with Your PC or system.

Good free alternative free version of Zone Alarm.

3. ) You could try to deinstall with a free specialized deinstaller program.

thx for reading my post

p. s." I'd rather not reinstall Windows XP "- I quite agree to that.

Especially You do not have to format normally - some installed program still work after system setup. So...
