Constant ERROR Message: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libarary - Buffer overrun detected?

Please help. Everytime I switch on laptop an error message pops up with the heading: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libarary. Then in the message box itself it say:

Buffer overrun detected

Program:C'\Windows\explorer.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected and has corrupted the program's internal state. This program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.

I tend to carry on working and not touch the error message. This is because if I click on OK or close it using the x in the corner, everything all icons and task bars everything will disappear from my screen and sometimes everything will reappear after a few secs including the SAME error message or the machine will be crashed and I will have to turn it off using the power button as nothing is running, not even control/alt/delete.

What can I do to fix this problem??

If you know the answer, please would you write down exactly what I need to do...? Many thanks Sophie

The problem is often cause by malware. Malware is software that you have installed, like a internet explorer toolbar or search bar that tries to run spyware or tries to hijack your browser.

Download the following programs to scan your computer... But after installing them restart your computer in safe mode to disable the malware when you do your scan. You do this by hitting the f8 key repeatedly until the boot menu appears. Once in safe mode run the programs and scan for the malware.
